Suddenly, Sharpay finds herself in a situation she's never been in before: She is without a safety net, a tiny fish in the biggest pond there is, and all of her dreams are on the line. Once she gets to New York, though, things fall apart: She gets kicked out of the penthouse because she has a dog, and the audition isn't really for her: It's for Boi. ![]() (Yikes, Dad, you either think really highly of Sharpay or don't believe in her at all.) Her father agrees, and gets her a penthouse apartment in the city, but makes her agree that if she doesn't have a part in a month, she'll come back home. The agent invites her to New York to audition for a part in his new musical. After college, Sharpay is scouted by a talent agent performing a song with her dog, Boi, at her father's country club. Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure is different. All the other redemptions she got felt like temporary attempts to tie up loose ends at the end of a kids' comedy so that everyone gets to be happy: Sure, Sharpay is friends with everyone and learned her lesson in this instance, but you know that in the next movie she'll be right back to being bratty, spoiled, and entitled. ![]() It is in this movie that Sharpay finally gets the redemption arc she deserved. While it did eventually air on Disney Channel, they didn't make an event of it the way they did with the other High School Musical movies. It was released directly to DVD in 2011, before it even had a television premiere. Though it didn't receive the fanfare of the three movies before it, Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure was a spinoff of comparable quality to the original three High School Musicals. Even bigger than just a happy ending at the end of High School Musical 3: She gets her own movie arc for redemption. Whether Sharpay was actually an antagonist is still up for debate, but what's not is Sharpay's redemption - because she does get it, in a big way. Still, fans loved Sharpay - many teenage fans would later write long posts on social media analyzing how Sharpay had really done nothing wrong and was unjustly labeled as a problem character. RELATED: What Zac Efron And The High School Musical Cast Have Said About The Films When she doesn't get those things, and Gabriella gets them instead, she becomes spiteful and unpleasant, and (even though she doesn't really do anything overtly evil) is essentially branded as the villain of the movie - and also becomes a much more major antagonist in the second. She assumes she'll have the lead in the musical every year, and assumes that she has the affection of Troy, star of the basketball team. In the original movie, Sharpay Evans is set as the villain character: She's full of herself, overconfident, rude, and presumptuous. One unexpected reaction of fans to the movie was their liking of Sharpay. ![]()
